Le Premier Meeting Lolita à Paris

DSCN9995 Cet évènement, qui s’appelle “Meeting avec Li-Li (et 39 ans de la vieille Mimi),” était génial ! // This event, which was for my first time attending a Parisian lolita meetup as well as celebrating Mimi’s birthday, was awesome!

I wanted to make this post bilingual, but I’m rather stressed out with financial aid applications and academic work… so I’m going to write in English from here on out. If you want to see the above paragraph translated into English, just let me know and I will be glad to edit in the translation at a later time. ^_^ DSCN9975 The lolita meetup was a tea party at the Hyatt Paris Madeleine on Saturday, April 4. There were four types of green tea: matcha, sencha, genmaicha, and houjicha. And of course, there were some adorable little pastries to eat! Here was the menu:

• Deux tranches de moelleux roll cakes

• Petits sablés

• Toads : petites tartelettes façon crumble à la vanille, au yuzu ou au chocolat

DSCN9972

Don’t they look adorable? They were so tasty too… If I had to choose a favorite, it would be the vanilla toad!

Now, let’s talk about the general experience I had that afternoon. First off, everyone looked so gorgeous at the tea party! I loved seeing all the coordinates… And I realized how much I really missed lolita. It was amazing to finally see gorgeous dresses and coordinates in person. We had a good mix of different styles: gothic to classic to sweet. And we also had a variety of brands! From Bodyline to Moi Même Moitié to BTSSB … and even a 100% handmade lolita coordinate! I was impressed by everyone’s outfits.

The lolitas were also all very friendly, and I did not feel left out or awkward even though the only person I knew beforehand was Camille. I was so shocked by the compliments I received; quite a few people said I spoke French well. I really love the French language but feel like I struggle with it a lot… so hearing this meant a lot to me! I plan to declare French as my second major this fall. 🙂

This was also my first time print-twinning in Lolita! Camille’s ultimate dream dress is Midsummer Night’s Dream, so she owns several pieces from the collection. I wore the ivory set, and she wore the black set. ^_^ It was so nice of her to let me wear her dream dress for the tea party! (I also absolutely love bonnets… I need to buy a bonnet of my own at some point. This bonnet was so much fun to wear! It was comfortable too.)

After the tea party, a few of us went to Princess Crêpe, a crêperie owned by Baby the Stars Shine Bright Paris.

DSCN0002

I had a matcha green tea ice cream crêpe! If you’ve been here, let me know what your favorite crêpe was. I loved it so much that I went back on Wednesday. xD On Wednesday, I had a caramel ice cream cheesecake crêpe.

If I have time, I will write some more posts about Spring Break and possibly other aspects of travel! I made a new category for my blog, “Travel,” and I added my previous Paris lolita blog post to the category (from two years ago… my first time studying in Paris!). To be honest, I also have some old drafts of posts I haven’t finished… So I might work on those and post them (even if they will be belated posts). But better late than never, right? I’ll try to post them for a “Throwback Thursday” or something so they don’t seem completely out of the blue. Thanks for reading!

(Et MERCI BEAUCOUP à Camille pour m’a prêtée sa belle tenue de Midsummer Night’s Dream !)

Captain Miaow: Hair Accessories

DSCN9608

You may recognize the name “Captain Miaow.” You’re not imagining it! Previously, I did a review of this Etsy shop’s animal ears, tails, and paws. Captain Miaow not only makes adorable animal accessories… They also make elegant hair accessories and jewelry items. They sent me a hair accessory set to review, and I am pleased to say that I am impressed by the product.

The package I received was a USPS padded mailer. The product was declared as “Handmade” and I had no problems with customs.

DSCN9585

Inside the mailer, I discovered a neat little cardboard box. This box ensured safe shipment of the hair accessories, and when I opened the box, I was pleasantly surprised by cute gift-wrap! The items were wrapped in tissue paper and the presentation included an adorable ribbon.

The packaging could not compare the accessories themselves though… Take a look:

Fotor

The accessories look identical. Each one has two fan-shaped decor pieces connected by two braided strings. The strings are embellished with dangling faux pearls, and the fan-shaped pieces are also embellished with pearls and gems (and of course, lace!). The backs of the fan-shaped pieces have alligator clips.

Check out the close-up details here:

Aren’t they beautiful?

This accessory was easy to clip into my hair. Due to the alligator clips’ teeth, the accessory did not slip down from where I positioned it. I highly recommend these hair accessories!

I wore one from the set of two for a photoshoot (mon premier shooting à Genève!) in a local park, Parc des Bastions. The photographer was Studio du petit oiseau, and it was a lovely experience.

As usual, I’ll share my circle lens ratings:

Overall: ☆☆☆☆☆

Style: ☆☆☆☆☆ The circle lens design is beautiful! There’s a thick black limbal ring along with a variety of shades of brown on the inner portions of the lenses. The lens design looks slightly like a flower (petals opening up around the pupil).

Enlargement: ☆☆☆☆☆ Amazing enlargement! The thick limbal ring definitely helps to delineate your eyes as much bigger than they actually are. The diameter is perfect for that big-eyed dolly look! I love how big my eyes look when I wear these lenses.

Color: ☆☆☆☆☆ The limbal ring is a bold solid black. There’s flecks of pale brown as well as a slightly orange-tinted brown (a nice golden hue). The colors are rich, just like chocolate!

Comfort: ☆☆☆☆☆ These are super comfortable lenses! I can wear them all day without a problem. They don’t dry out my eyes; I don’t even need to use eye drops. If you want comfy lenses, I would highly recommend the Geo Princess Mimi Chocolate Brown circle lenses!

(☆ = Most negative/Not good at all, ☆☆ = Not that good, but okay ☆☆☆ = Neutral/No opinion/No answer, ☆☆☆☆ = Great, ☆☆☆☆☆ = Most positive/Fantastic!)

BeautyPlus_20150319113917_save

I absolutely adore these circle lenses! I’ve tried another lens pair from the Geo Princess Mimi series, and those lenses are also really comfortable and cute. If you want a different lens from the Geo Princess Mimi series, go for it! I’m sure you’ll be satisfied.

How do you make your eyes so big?

This is a question I have received on Instagram, Facebook, and Tumblr. Many people who use circle lenses to achieve the big-eye look, since circle lenses literally enlarge your eyes (or at least give the illusion of bigger pupils and/or bigger irises). I love circle lenses for this same reason! But in addition to circle lenses, I use other techniques to make my eyes look bigger. Here are my top 3 tips for dolly eyes, in addition to circle lenses:

  1. False eyelashes. If you use false lashes, they can really open up your eyes and make them look bigger! Exaggerated lashes give the illusion of bigger eyes. Using just top lashes makes your eyes bigger, but if you use both top and bottom lashes, your eyes will appear to be even more exaggerated in size. When I apply my bottom lashes, I don’t put them at the waterline. By applying them below the waterline, it creates the illusion of larger eyes.
  2. Black eyeliner. Thick black eyeliner can also make your eyes look bigger since they draw attention to the outline of your eye. This is similar to how a dark and solid limbal ring on circle lenses gives the illusion of bigger eyes as well. You can apply black eyeliner with or without false lashes for an enlarging effect. Even when I don’t wear false lashes, I find that simple eyeliner can make my eyes look bigger.
  3. White eyeliner and/or light-colored/luminescent eyeshadow. This is one of my favorite tricks! In the look I used for this blog post featuring the Geo Princess Mimi Chocolate Brown circle lenses, I used a silver eyeshadow. Normally, at home, I use white eyeliner to line the bottom of my eyes, but since I’m studying abroad, I had to pack light and the only eyeliner I brought with me was my black one. Since I didn’t have any white eyeliner, I decided to try using silver eyeshadow… and it works the same way! It also gives a cute sparkle to your eyes. If you use a light-colored/luminescent eyeshadow, carefully apply it to the bottoms of your eyes in a line. Do not blend the shadow. This should make your eyes pop!

I hope these tips will help you! Feel free to ask me any questions.

You may have seen me wear these lenses before… (And it’s true!) Here are some of my previous looks featuring these circle lenses:

notime

Above, you can see that I am not wearing any false lashes. I used black eyeliner on the top and white eyeliner on the bottom, as well as neutral eyeshadows.

I also used these lenses for my Magnet Meiko (Vocaloid) costest! And of course, I’ve used these lenses upon other occasions as well. I hope you like them as much as I do!

Definitely check out Geo Princess Mimi Chocolate Brown circle lenses and let me know if you have tried any others in the series. If you purchase from PinkyParadise, be sure to use the code “xiaorawr” to get free mystery gifts and cute lens cases!
