[LBC] Top Tips For Managing Your Wardrobe

I think it’s fine to tag Loliita Blog Carnival as “LBC” again in the blog post titles, right? I’ve been participating in Lolita Blog Carnival more regularly lately!

This week’s prompt is “Top Tips For Managing Your Wardrobe.” To be honest, I need to implement a better way to manage my wardrobe, but it’s really tough when you’re living in a tiny (and cockroach-infested) NYC apartment. The closet I have has a broken door (it’s off the hinges and doesn’t close properly), so I try not to hang any of my lolita dresses in there. I store my lolita clothing mostly in a suitcase, and I also have a plastic container where I store more clothing item that does not fit in my storage suitcase. As for lolita accessories, I clean and recycle containers for hair accessories and jewelry (moon box tins for hair corsages and bows, laptop box for headbows, etc.), or hat boxes for hats and bonnets.

Recycling containers for hair accessory storage is effective and budget-friendly!

I’ll summarize 5 tips for managing your wardrobe:

  1. Organize by item. Blouses? Put them all in the same container, or put them next to each other in the closet. Socks? Keep them in the same place for easy access.
  2. Get more specific and stay organized. You can organize by color or style. For example, I put all my gothic hair accessories together in the same tin, and all my sweet and deco rings together in the same box. You can also organize legwear by ankle socks, knee-high or over-the-knee socks, and tights/leggings. If you wear certain items more than others, put them in a more easily accessible place so you’re not digging through too much to find things you wear regularly.
  3. Designate a spot for loliable items or items that you also use for other styles. I have a duffel bag where I store my punk items, and another bag where I store my gyaru items. I also use some of these items for lolita coords, but I keep them separate since my biggest collection of alternative fashion is lolita, and it’s easier to keep those items separate. And when I’m planning coords and want to incorporate punk or gyaru, it’s easy for me to find what I need in these spaces.
  4. Keep inventory. I know a lot of Lolitas who make a yearly wardrobe post, or have an album where they keep photos of all their items. I haven’t done either of these yet, but I do have a written list of items I keep track of. This is a great way to hold yourself accountable to what items you have and if you want to sell items, you can also refer to this list. During the beginning of my time in the fashion, I wasn’t good about keeping a list and I regret this since it was difficult for me to backtrack and add items to the list. I currently only keep track of main pieces, but it would also be helpful to keep track of accessories.
  5. Separate items you are selling from the rest. If you have items for sale, separate them from the rest of your wardrobe so you can organize what you’re selling and easily find them when you need to ship them out.

Beauty of Joseon: Revitalize Sleeping Mask Review

DSC_0545

Have you ever tried any products from Beauty of Joseon?

Right now, in celebration of Earth Day, YesStyle is giving away a free tote bag with purchase until April 26 — you can shop beauty here, and use the code “3PEARLS” for an additional discount off your order.

This was my first time trying a product from the K-Beauty brand Beauty of Joseon, and I decided to try the Revitalize Sleeping Mask. Technically, I am using a different sleeping mask daily, but I’ve been applying it as a night cream and not using it as a sleeping mask. Therefore, I have been using the Revitalize Sleeping Mask as an additional layer once in a while when my skin needs more moisture. I waited until I was done with the jar before writing this review.

The beautiful vintage-style packaging caught my eye first! I love the paper cover over the jar, but under the paper cover is an actual lid. It’s also made from sturdy plastic. I’ve accidentally dropped the jar a few times, and it never broke.

This is a sleeping mask, so it is meant to be applied as the last step of your skincare routine at night. This product is advertised as providing its users with brightening and anti-wrinkle benefits, and some ingredients include black soybean, ginseng and orchid extract.

From my experience, the texture is light, cool, and gel-like. It absorbs quickly into the skin, although it feels a bit sticky when first applied. I am not sure if it is fragrance-free, but it does not smell artificial. There is no definitive smell in my personal opinion, and it did not cause any skin irritation. It’s a great sleeping mask for added moisture, but I didn’t notice any brightening benefits.

[Lolita Blog Carnival] Create A Coord That Sparks Joy

This week’s prompt is: “Create A Coord That Sparks Joy!” I haven’t been very inspired by coords lately, but I decided to use my favorite color combination (red and black) plus some punk inspiration. I have admired punk fashion (and any rebellious fashion style, honestly) for a long time, and it was fun pulling together this look!

This JSK has been my favorite Taobao piece for years, and I also highlighted it in this Lolita Blog Carnival post in 2015. Chess Story’s In the Name of Rose JSK is so elegant, and I wouldn’t think to use it for a Punk Lolita coord at first, but I’m glad I chose to use it as the main piece.

The jacket is an offbrand punk piece I have worn in lolita coords in the past like this one, and this jacket brings me joy and I really should wear it more often.

Coord Rundown: Meeting Akira
• WIG: gothiclolitawigs (and lashes from dolluxe-cosmetics)
• HEADBOW: Offbrand
• HEART DANGLING CLIP: Sweet Mildred
• NECKLACE: Vintage
• BLOUSE: Fanplusfriend
• JACKET: Offbrand
• SKIRT: Angelic Pretty
• SOCKS:...
A coord from 2014

I really love mismatched aesthetic, so I also wanted to layer one striped over-the-knee sock on one side, and reveal the patterned tights on the other side. I even chose to incorporate a choker with half black/half red and mismatching black and red fingerless lace gloves. These gloves and this choker I acquired into my wardrobe recently, and last time I wore them was for a Harley Quinn closet cosplay earlier this month, but I wanted to use these accessories for a punk look as well!

The black and red rose hair clips are so beat up now… they’ve been well-loved and well-worn, and I’ll continue to incorporate them into coords well into the future. These roses spark joy for me and even as I acquire new hair accessories, I always gravitate back to these roses when coords have black and/or red color schemes.

For shoes, I’d wear the same boots I wore in this coord:

These boots are super comfy, and I love how they look with various outfits. I have orthotics in them too, for arch support. I love how the red laces pop against the red, and I also love the silhouette of the block heel.

I read the Just Below the Knee Zine recently, and thoroughly enjoyed it. This month’s theme from them is punk lolita, and they’re running a Punk Coord Contest right now. I might wear this coord this weekend and enter it in the contest! I may even tweak some things a bit; we’ll see. One aspect of Lolita fashion that sparks joy in me is the process of creating coordinates (and wearing them), and I hope you have a fashion style in your life that sparks joy too!
