Photowalk: Happy Holidays from Deku (BNHA Cosplay)

Hi everyone! Happy Holidays! And Merry Christmas to those who celebrate. My family doesn’t celebrate Christmas, so December 25 doesn’t feel any different than yesterday. But I figured this would be a perfect time to share photos from our holiday-themed winter photowalk in NYC!

Some of you may remember my blog post last year about Instameets. This photowalk was an Instameet too — I was invited to join the group by one of my friends, and to organize the photowalk, everyone conversed via Instagram group direct message.

For the photowalk, I decided to do an ugly Christmas sweater outfit as my first-ever Deku cosplay! I have cosplayed Ochako from Boku no Hero Academia, but I’d never cosplayed Midoriya Izuku yet. He’s so cute, and I thought his hair color was perfect for the holiday season (it reminds me of a Christmas tree).

It was freezing cold that day, so I should have worn extra layers under my costume. I could have gotten away with it too, but it didn’t occur to me in my rush to get dressed that morning. I went to meet the group at Bryant Park, but they had already left that spot by the time I got there. It’s a photowalk and not photo-stay-at-the-same-spot, after all. >w< At least I got to see the pretty Christmas tree briefly in Bryant Park! It was super crowded there though.

While I was in Bryant Park trying to figure out where to go, I used some holiday present ribbons (red and white striped, green) to wrap around my legs. I figured if I was wearing such an ugly Christmas sweater and a gift box on my head, I might as well turn my legs into Christmas presents too.

Luckily, someone texted me where they were headed to so I was able to meet them near the Rockefeller Center area of Manhattan. We had a good-sized group of both photographers and models! Some were in cosplay and some were doing Christmas fashion (or technically they could be in femme! Santa Claus cosplay or sexy Mrs. Claus cosplay?). The below three photos were taken by Ismael Ordonez.

I loved the backdrops of giant ornaments and giant Christmas lights! So colorful and fun.

The photowalk continued on into dinnertime, but I left before dinner to commute back home. I like the flexibility of a photowalk, but I don’t think I’ll do another photowalk this winter. It’s so cold. I could see my breath the entire time, was mostly shivering, and had a runny nose from the cold weather. It also rained a bit that day!

I just realized my past Instameets were during cold weather too… I really need to check out an Instameet/photowalk during spring and/or summer! Have you ever been to an Instameet or photowalk?

Click here to check out more photos from this Photowalk!

And special shoutout to my friend Bambi who went to the photowalk with me and was kind enough to help me carry my winter jacket (not seen in the photos) and my bag. The baggy red sweater and scarf I was wearing on top of my ugly Xmas sweater were borrowed from her.

Wishing everyone a happy holiday season filled with joy, and a happy and healthy New Year! ❤ One of my goals for 2019 is to blog more regularly, so hopefully you’ll see me here more often too.

[LBC] A Holiday Themed Coord

lbc

Hi, everyone! It has been a long time since I participated in Lolita Blog Carnival. I’ve been really busy with the full-time job I started in September, so I haven’t had much time to blog. Hopefully I’ll find time to blog more in 2017! In any case, this week’s prompt is: Create A Holiday Themed Coord!

For WinterCon, a comic and sci-fi expo in NYC, I decided to wear a holiday-themed coordinate for Sunday at the con. Think: holiday toys and presents for children!

IMG_1478.jpg

The dress and the headbow are from Alice and the Pirates’ Drosselmeyer’s Wonderbox series. I love the unique colorway and the variety of toys that line the dress’s border. The cuffs and yoke are nice touches too! I felt like a whimsical toymaker princess, to be honest.

Of course, this was a very cold Sunday, and most of the time, I was completely bundled up. And most of the photos reflected this.

Yes, I had a thick scarf on (which was technically a shawl that I used as a scarf), a long winter coat with a faux fur collar, and I had gloves with me (but I didn’t wear the gloves for the photos). As much as I love my Alice and the Pirates book purse, all my stuff didn’t fit into that small purse, so I used the tote bag I got from the Angelic Pretty Mook too. I also realize that I wear these rings with most of my coordinates. (Plus I’m wearing my college ring, which I never take off except for certain cosplays.)

I actually left WinterCon early to explore Manhattan a bit, and Joe of Just Cosplay Photos and I checked out the Rockefeller Center. It was super crowded, but we did manage to get some shots!

I felt like the colors from the tree matched my outfit quite well! (Except all the colors in my outfit were darker.)

After checking out the tree, we looked at some of the window displays for various stores. A random lady complimented my purse and asked me where I got it. I had the chance to explain EGL fashion to her, which was a pleasure!

Last but not least, I adopted this precious bear from WinterCon… I named him Drosselmeyer after my dress! Isn’t he adorable? Drosselmeyer is too precious and he deserves so much love. I will probably make a blog post specifically about Drosselmeyer and me at WinterCon. I am excited to see the photos Brian captured of me and Drosselmeyer!

Thank you so much for reading, and please share your own holiday adventures with me! Photography credits go to Brian Ngai (photos at WinterCon) and Just Cosplay Photos (photos in Manhattan).

Christmas Beauty Questions Tag

blog

Hi, everyone! I read Denise’s blog post responding to the Christmas Beauty Questions Tag, and she invited everyone who read her blog post to do this questionnaire too. I love reading Denise’s beauty reviews, and she also has really cool photo diaries. My family doesn’t celebrate Christmas, but I’ve always enjoyed giving holiday presents to close friends. Christmas doesn’t feel like a special day to me; it’s no different than any other “normal” day. To be honest, winter is my least favorite season (because I hate the cold), so I am not fond of December but I try my best to stay positive! And giving winter holiday gifts to others is definitely a great way to add some positivity to the shivering cold weeks.

Without further ado, here are my answers to the Christmas Beauty Questions Tag!

1. Have you been naughty or nice this year with your skincare routine?

I have been naughty… Very naughty. I really should take better care of my skin, but I’m always stressed and busy during academic semesters, which spurs on skincare laziness due to lack of free time. Although skincare should be a priority… But nope! And even during the summer, I didn’t take very good care of my skin since I had an internship and was busy. I am guilty of rushing through washing my face at night… and not removing makeup properly. I also rub at my skin roughly when I apply face cream; my mom scolds me every time I’m home and I do this because she says it looks painful. On a “nice” note, I always apply face cream at night and I use acne spot gel when I have breakouts (which happen a lot due to stress).

2. What’s the go-to beauty, makeup or skincare product you would gift to your family and friends?

It depends on who I’m gifting to and what they like! For some friends, perfumes would be the perfect gift because they love fragrances. For others, lipstick would be a better choice. My mom doesn’t wear makeup, so if I were to choose a gift for her, it would be a skincare item such as a cream or cleanser.

3. Do you mind gifting high-end products or rather drug store products to others?

I have gifted both high-end products and drug store products to others in the past. I think real friends would appreciate the gift regardless of the price or where it’s from; it’s the thought that counts!

4. What are the beauty products you’re hoping to get to see under your Christmas tree this year?

I don’t have a Christmas tree and my family doesn’t celebrate Christmas… So I am not exactly “hoping to see something” unless it’s something I buy for myself (and I really want to try more sheet masks and eyebrow pencils). However, my friend Terry got me a gift and made me promise not to open it until Christmas day. And she heavily implied that it was a beauty item… (This is the same Terry who got me my first Korean eyeliner! Read my review here.)

5. What is the beauty product that you’re dreading to receive for Christmas this year?

Not dreading anything. And as previously mentioned, I don’t celebrate Christmas.

6. Are you are beauty blogger participating in Blogmas this year? If so what is the post you’re most proud of so far?

Nope! I actually had no idea what Blogmas was until Denise explained it to me. Maybe I can participate someday!

7. Do you remember the first beauty product you received as a Christmas present? What was it and did you enjoy it?

I am not sure if I have ever received a beauty product as a Christmas present… But WishTrend sponsored a Klairs skincare set around Christmas time, so if that counts as a present, I definitely enjoyed it! It was fun writing the review and I’m still not done using all the products.

8. What mini size product would you recommend as a great stocking stuffer?

Lipsticks and eyeliners are lovely small items that would fit nicely into stockings! Small eyeshadow quads would also be really cute.

9. Would you rather you friends and family ask you gifts you wanted to receive or have them surprise you?

I don’t mind either way. I honestly feel awkward when people ask me what kinds of gifts I want since I don’t want to ask for things that will inconvenience my friends and family. It’s the thought that counts, so I appreciate any gift, as long as the gift has good intentions.

10. What is your favourite way to show Christmas spirit through your look or outfit?

My favorite color is red, so Christmastime is yet another excuse for me to wear lots of red! I haven’t tried to pull off a Christmas fashion look yet, but I did attend an Ugly Sweater Cosplay Meet recently and designed a really silly ugly Christmas sweater. Before this year ends, I hope to wear a Christmas-y Lolita coordinate! In 2013, Terry invited me to go with her on a winter Lolita adventure on Christmas Eve. My Lolita coordinate wasn’t exactly Christmas-y… but it was red!

Anyone who would like to do this: YOU’RE TAGGED! ^_^

Here’s the list of questions in case you want to copy and paste them onto your blog:

Christmas Eve: Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Image

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it, and Happy Holidays (and have a great winter season) to those who do not~! I don’t really celebrate Christmas, but every year, I like to give out presents to family and friends during the months of December and January. (Although my grandparents and mother always complain when I give them presents… xD) I like showing my gratitude during the winter season by giving presents to people who mean something special to me. Even though I don’t really celebrate Christmas, I have always wanted to do something special on Christmas Eve when I was growing up. Perhaps it is because I grew up surrounded by people who went on vacations during Winter Break, or did fun things with family and/or friends on Christmas Eve, and for me, Christmas Eve just seemed like a normal day at home.

This winter break, a college friend and I are house-sitting for a friend of the college. So this is my first winter break away from home… that, in itself, is quite exciting! The place I am house-sitting has a Christmas tree. We water the tree everyday, and I love seeing the tree. When it’s dark, I like to turn on the Christmas lights. The ornaments and lights are so pretty together…

Image

I brought some lolita things with me to wear, but I know I won’t be able to wear them much. After all, lolita clothes are not the best things to wear when you are caring for chickens and other animals. I wouldn’t want to stain my skirts or JSKs!

However, I had the chance to pretty myself up and go out in lolita! Yesterday, my friend Terry (who I call my lolita big sister) came to pick me up for some winter festivities.

We took lots of selcas~

We began by going to an exhibit called Walking in a Winter Wonderland. There were various indoor areas decorated with lots of trees and pretty scenes:

There were even moments when fake snow (made from soap, I believe) poured down from the ceilings!

Fake snow is fun because… it isn’t cold!~

ImageImage

After we finished walking through this Winter Wonderland, there was a professional photographer waiting at the last point. We had our photos taken and received some cute prints! I don’t have them with me at the moment (I forgot to take my copies; Terry has them at the moment). But I hope to give the photo prints to my mother and grandparents the next time I see them.

When we left the Winter Wonderland, we decided it would be fun to take some outdoor photos nearby! We walked around and found an area with cute historic buildings.

ImageImageImage

After taking photos of each other and chatting about family and possible other activities to do while wearing lolita in the future, Terry and I recorded silly clips of each other in this area. I decided to put together some of these clips for my first lolita-centric YouTube video. After some thought, I decided to make a YouTube channel. Once we decided that was enough filming for the day, Terry and I found an outdoor gazebo for some more fun photos!

Image

Terry was really hungry after this, and it was also getting late… so we decided it was a good time to get some food. We went to a small Vietnamese restaurant for our Christmas Eve lunch. Terry had Vietnamese udon noodle and seafood soup, and I had stir-fry rice noodles with beef and vegetables. There was hardly anyone in the restaurant, probably because it was Christmas Eve and most people are eating at home with their families.

Image

All in all, yesterday was a lovely Christmas Eve! I am really grateful that Terry dropped by and picked me up to do something fun on Christmas Eve. Snapping photos, eating good food, wearing lolita, and enjoying the company of a friend are all great ways to spend a day.

Today, by contrast, I am taking care of the animals and wearing a sweatshirt and leggings. I wouldn’t want to crawl through the chicken coop in my lolita clothes…

[EDIT: Here is the Video. ^_^]

How did you spend your Christmas Eve? Do you have any plans for this week?
