Stranger Sings

Are you a Stranger Things fan? If so, you should definitely check out the Stranger Sings musical! This is a parody off-broadway musical. Recently, they announced the show has been extended through April 30, 2023. You can still grab tickets if you want to check it out!

The Stranger Sings musical is at Playhouse 46 at St. Luke’s (308 W. 46th Street) in NYC. Jonathan Hogue wrote the book, music, and lyrics for the show, and it’s a fun experience. The theatre is on the smaller side, so you don’t have to worry about not being able to see. The way the show is set up has the audience surrounding the stage on all four sides. It’s very immersive! If you’re looking for a serious show, this is not it. It’s very campy and funny. I also don’t think you need to be a Stranger Things fan to enjoy the show, although being a fan definitely helps since you’ll get the references. It might be confusing if you aren’t familiar with Stranger Things (plus there may be spoilers for you!). If you’re worried about being spoiled but have started Stranger Things, you should be good as long as you finished Season 1.

The most surprising thing about this musical is the puppet! The character Will is portrayed by a puppet, performed by Caroline Huerta, the same person who plays Joyce. This was really unique and memorable for me. Some of the other actors also played multiple characters: Kyle Mangold played both Steve and Jonathan, and Harley Seger played both Eleven and Nancy. I was impressed by how quickly Kyle and Harley were able to change wigs and costumes! They were definitely skilled at quick changes.

I don’t want to spoil the show, so I won’t be going into detail about plot and specifics. You’ll have to check it out for yourself!

Here are some of my favorite things about the musical without spoilers:

  • The music is lively and cute!
  • They break the fourth wall (which was one of my favorite moments — Winona Ryder deserves an Emmy!)
  • Also — justice for Barb Holland!!!

If you saw the Stranger Sings musical, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Did it for the Vine: Best Vine Memories

As some of you may know, I’ve been a big fan of Vine since 2014. I posted my first Vine on December 18, 2014, and I vined until the end. I loved doing things “for the Vine,” even though fitting things into a 6-second video was a huge challenge for me. Many of my Vines had multiple parts! I did have some successful 6-second Vines though. I was very sad to hear Vine was shutting down since I have had so many great memories making Vines, and I also looked forward to making future Vines. (I also have a bunch of videos in my backlog that will never become Vines now…) Feel free to check out my Vine profile! Even though Vine is shut down, the Vines we posted are at least here to stay (I hope).

In loving memory of Vine, I will be sharing my favorite Vines that I’ve posted since the beginning!

  • Attack on Lolita – Here’s my very first Vine! I wasn’t really sure how to make Vines at the time, but my friend Arien explained it to me and… since then, I Vined until the end. [Attack on Titan]
  • It’s a Video! – This is the first of many times in which I trick my friends into thinking we are taking a selfie, but in reality, it’s a video clip. I have probably at least 100 of these videos now… [Haikyuu!!]
  • Nice Pitching – How did this get over 17k views?! (Also, you can hear Miyuki actually slapping Sawamura’s butt.) [Daiya no Ace]
  • Begging – This actually hurt… The things I do for Vines (and for Miyusawa), though. #DoItFortheVine [Daiya no Ace]
  • CockBlocked – When you’re cockblocked by a volleyball though… I’m sure they love volleyballs, but this is not the right time. [Haikyuu!!]
  • Uptown Funk – This was just something random we did in Stella’s dorm room, and I posted it to Vine on a whim… and it got a surprising number of views. And someone once recognized me as “that Sawamura in the Uptown Funk vine.” [Daiya no Ace]
  • Gangnam Style – Well, we got to cross this off our bucket list: that elevator scene from Gangnam Style, cosplay edition! [K Project]
  • Vine Videos are Short – In which Kuroh is a terrible person (and we’re literally talking about Vines). [K Project]
  • H-E-L-L-O Venus – AKA Yata and Kuroh do a sexy K-Pop dance. [K Project]
  • That One Looks like a Baseball! – What do you see in the clouds, Sawamura? Everything is baseball. [Daiya no Ace]
  • Unwanted Visitor – This is one of my favorite dance memories! At the rehearsal for our YumeProject Debut Live, there is a random Silent Hill character trying to join in with the idols’ dance… [Multifandom]
  • Pick-Up Line – I live for baseball puns, and this is one of my favorites. [Daiya no Ace]
  • Renai Circulation – Watch Japan teach Greece how to dance~! [Hetalia]
  • Serenade – This is the strangest crossover ever… Poor Kuroko. [Multifandom]
  • Call 911 – These are baseball idiots, but I love these baseball idiots. [Daiya no Ace]
  • Len is Ripped – AKA, some Black Vow silliness (and my friend’s first time open-chest-binding). [Vocaloid]
  • I’m a Cat – Of course, everyone in Nekoma is a cat. [Haikyuu!!]
  • Lying on the Cold Hard Ground – This Vine was stuck in my head for weeks at one point, and it was so annoying… but this Vine is one of my all-time faves! [Daiya no Ace]
  • The Second Date – Honestly, this might happen on every single date… [Daiya no Ace]
  • Cat Collector – Remember when everyone was playing Neko Atsume? I played this game for a bit but then uninstalled it. I remember that literally everyone I knew was obsessed with it though, even coworkers (who were not into fandoms or geek things)! [Hetalia]
  • Bird is the Word – The things I do for Vines… I did quite a few Dubsmashes for Vines during my time here. [Haikyuu!!]
  • Restaurant – That is NOT how you use chopsticks! I really liked my reaction at the end, haha. [Hetalia]
  • Nice Legs – This was a really fun Dubsmash to do! [Haikyuu!!]
  • Share a Coke with… – Miyuki is the Captain, and Sawamura is… ?! [Daiya no Ace]
  • Double Bubble – Shoutout to my friends Arien and Jase for teaching me how to blow bubble gum though! I literally spent two decades trying and failing and now I can finally blow bubbles. [Daiya no Ace]
  • Pocky Game – That girl staring at the end though… Oh my gosh. [Daiya no Ace]
  • Some Anime Eye Problems – These are as wide as these eyes are gonna get. [Daiya no Ace]
  • Baseball, Dancing, Same Game – I still can’t believe I was dancing with that injured ankle… I did it for the Vine! [Daiya no Ace]
  • Jun, Stop – These seniors are so proud of their kouhai, but they express their pride in different ways. [Daiya no Ace]
  • IncorrectDNA – One of my favorite quotes from IncorrectDNA… So happy we got the chance to Vine this! [Daiya no Ace]
  • Will You Marry Me? – When you try to propose but your boyfriend has a one-track baseball mind. [Daiya no Ace]
  • Lolita Makeup – I really liked my makeup this day! I used the Meipai app for many of my fashion/beauty Vines since it was really easy and had cool effects and music. [Non-Fandom]
  • Black Vow of Baseball – I still can’t believe we pretended to play baseball in Black Vow Vocaloid cosplay… [Vocaloid]
  • I Don’t Dance – My favorite High School Musical song, to be honest. [Daiya no Ace]
  • Gwiyomi – Nai is literally the cutest thing and I adore him. Gwiyomi suits him! [Karneval]
  • Just Moved In – Poor Judy Hopps… (this scene made me laugh in the movie, hahaha) [Zootopia]
  • You are my Angel – I love Seventeen so much~! I posted a bunch of Vines from my first K-Pop concert. It was also the only concert I’ve been to, but I hope I can attend another one in the future. [K-Pop]
  • Technical Difficulties – I was so impressed by Ailee’s performance! The music stopped playing, but she continued on with amazing vocals and stage presence. [K-Pop]
  • Selfies – Kunikida is judging us. [Bungou Stray Dogs]
  • DDR – Kunikida is still judging us. [Bungou Stray Dogs]
  • Yaoi Though – “You can eat my yaoi stick at your leisure” ~Quote from an unknown anime we discovered at our first yaoi panel [Haikyuu!!]
  • Wedding Day – I can’t believe you’re doing this on our wedding day! [Zootopia]
  • WildeHopps – It’s called a hustle, sweetheart. [Zootopia]
  • Baby, I Make Bodyline – Everyone loves Mr. Yan (not)… [Non-Fandom]
  • Swing, Swing, Scream – Swinging gone wrong. [No Game No Life]
  • What’s going on?! – Kunikida is just trying to fix his hair though. [Bungou Stray Dogs]
  • Christmas Crabs – In which I convince everyone at the NYC Sports Anime Meet to do this with me. [Multifandom]
  • Hearts in your Eyes – Everyone has heart eyes for Viktor, TBH. [Yuri on Ice]
  • Seesaw – This is supposed to be a fun time in the park, but… [No Game No Life]
  • Space Puns – In which Furuya is so done. [Daiya no Ace]
  • Viktuuri Fangirl Attacks – Yes, we were born to make history! (or at least we were trying to) [Yuri on Ice]
  • Good-bye, Vine! – My very last Vine. [Non-Fandom]

Over 1 million loops, over 900 followers, over 400 vines.

Vine was a great app, and I am sad that it’s gone, but I’m happy that I was able to make some great memories. It looks like most of my favorite memories from Vine were Daiya no Ace videos, and that makes sense, since Daiya no Ace is my favorite fandom. Moving forward, I hope I can still make videos. Maybe I’ll post funny videos to Twitter and Tumblr and Instagram? It’ll never be the same as Vine though, and I also cross-posted many of my Vines to other social media. It feels strange: I’ll never be able to “do it for the Vine” again. There was something charming about 6-second videos on infinite loop.

Do you have any favorite Vines? Feel free to share them with me. Vine, you will be missed!

TeaCupCastle: Stormborn Claw Necklace

Today I am going to review a lovely necklace for you all: the Stormborn Claw Necklace from the Etsy shop TeaCupCastle. TeaCupCastle has a variety of handmade jewelry using vintage findings.

The Stormborn Claw Necklace is inspired by Daenerys Targaryen (one of my favorite characters from Game of Thrones!!). If you love Game of Thrones, you should check out TeaCupCastle’s other Game of Thrones-inspired jewelry, like the Night’s Watch Ring and the Lannister Lion Crest Pin.

Now, onto the review!

TeaCupCastle

TeaCupCastle mailed out the package in a bubble mailer. The mailer arrived completely in-tact, with no tears at all. Inside the mailer was a coupon, a business card, and a box sealed with cute tape. The necklace was safely nestled inside the box on a fluffy bed. The pendant was even tucked inside a small plastic bag for added protection!

I love this necklace and hope to wear it many times in the future.

For this sponsored review, I incorporated the necklace into a lolita coordinate. I love how it looks with the gothic lolita aesthetic!

Here is the coordinate rundown:

Necklace: Tea Cup Castle

Hair accessories: Offbrand

Blouse: Metamorphose

JSK: Chess Story

Socks and Boots: Offbrand

Rings: Offbrand

NECKLACE

The pendant orb of this necklace is a gorgeous deep purple that seems to change color slightly, depending on the lighting. Sometimes, it looks so dark that it is almost black, and other times, it looks like a vibrant shade of purple. Upon close observation, I noticed bits of green that slithers its way around the orb. The green is not too noticeable from a distance, but up close, it looks really cool. It reminds me of a mystical planet or (dare I say it…?) a dragon egg! I can just imagine the orb cracking along the green veins.

DSC_2157 Final verdict on this necklace: ☆☆☆☆☆ out of ☆☆☆☆☆ ! I have no complaints whatsoever. The necklace is easy to wear, everything is well-constructed and sturdy, and it’s truly beautiful. This necklace works wonderfully for lolita fashion, but it would also be easy to incorporate into other fashion styles and even casual wear. The necklace would really stand out against a plain t-shirt, for example!

You should all check out TeaCupCastle for awesome jewelry and more~! If you want to make a purchase, feel free to use the following coupon code for 15% off: “XOXO15”

My friend Terry let me borrow her offbrand umbrella! I love how her umbrella has cute ruffled detailing along the edges.
