LBC: A Coord Inspired by Your Favorite Novel

This week on Lolita Blog Carnival, I will be sharing a coordinate inspired by my favorite novel! I love reading, so it’s very difficult for me to choose my favorite novel, but I will pick one. Hmm… I’ll pick something real horrorshow!~

lbc

What first comes to mind is A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess because I have read this novel numerous times, and it never ceases to entertain me. It is thought-provoking, clever, heart-wrenching, and beautifully written. Every time I read it, I notice something different. Perhaps this is because I am a different person each time I read it? The first time I read it, I was thirteen or fourteen. I read it several times after that, and I read it for class in my senior year of high school. I have fond memories of my final project for AP English; my research project was on Nadsat!

A Clockwork Orange
I tried to emulate Alex’s manner of dress, using a white blouse and dress. I also chose more punk-looking shoes … hardcore shoes that look good for all the bezoomy fun that Alex and his droogs engage in. The cane with the skull head would be a stylish weapon that Alex could tolchock with! And of course, Alex’s signature bowler hat (sweetened up a bit with a pretty ribbon and bow). I also added a clockwork necklace and ring to the coordinate because I do think that the idea of a “clockwork orange” in the title is important in understanding the primary theme of the book. Even though Alex does not wear clockwork items, I wanted to add clockwork motifs into the coordinate as a window into the debate regarding human nature and human will.

LBC: A Comfy Lolita Outfit

This week’s Lolita Blog Carnival theme is… A COMFY LOLITA OUTFIT! I haven’t had time to participate in LBC lately, so I am glad I’m finally joining in again!

lbc

I will share some of my comfiest lolita coordinates with you. For me, things that are stretchy are more comfortable because it allows for more free movement. I especially love dresses and skirts with generous shirring because I can eat lots of food and not feel like I am going to rip my clothes. My stomach expands when I eat, and in the past, buttons have flown off my skirts from eating too much. It is always really embarrassing when that happens… I’ve also resorted to partially unzipping skirts or dresses before feasting, and covering the unzipped part with a cardigan or bolero. (What can I say; I am quite the glutton!)

saturday I wore the above coordinate on RuffleCon Day One. This Chantilly Phantom Merry-Go-Round dress is super comfy due to its generous shirring. It’s super stretchy, so I never felt restricted. It did not feel tight anywhere, and this outfit was comfy to sit down as well as to run around in. I always favor comfortable lolita shoes, like these wedge mary-janes!

summercasual

This coordinate was a nice casual one from this summer. No wig means less summer heat, and it also means less itchiness. The shoes are unfortunately cut off in the above photo… I asked my mom to take a photo, and I didn’t check my camera until the next day. I was wearing my black mary-jane flats with this outfit, which have built-in arch supports, so they are super comfortable! I usually have to put my orthotic inserts into my shoes because I have flat feet and suffer from a joint disease. Chronic pain still happens, but that’s something I can’t change. Besides the shoes, this Bodyline JSK is super comfortable. It has full shirring, all around the bodice of the dress. The blouse is from Forever21, and it’s really easy to wear and clean.

This skirt has partial shirring, and even though I prefer full shirring, this skirt is still comfortable. It is not as tight as my other partially shirred skirts. The cotton cutsew is super stretchy, which is wonderful. I love this wig from Gothic Lolita Wigs too! It’s not itchy at all and it’s not too tight or too loose. This wig is one of the comfiest ones I own!

DSCN6137 Ah yes, another dress with generous shirring. I wore this coordinate on Christmas Eve 2013! This Putumayo OP is a wonderful dress to wear because it’s light and very comfortable. It still looks pretty formal even though it feels as comfortable as a casual dress. And I am wearing those super-comfy wedge mary-janes again. I wear these shoes a lot because they’re so comfortable and they also add some height.

LBC: The Most Versatile Lolita Item I Own

lbc

The most versatile lolita item I own would definitely be a blouse! Blouses can be worn under JSKS or with skirts, and blouses can also be used for ouji coordinates. I am not sure which blouse I have is the most versatile one, but after some minutes of thinking, I decided that my most versatile blouse is my black Fanplusfriend short-sleeved blouse.

DSC_2166

I believe that this blouse is the most versatile item I own because it can be used for a variety of different substyles: sweet lolita, classic lolita, gothic lolita, and even casual lolita. It has a simple design and the color is solid black (no other colors work their way into this blouse). The simplicity of this blouse makes it easy to match with different styles, as long as the color black works for the coordinate. Black is an easy color to match too! If the blouse was blue or red, for example, it would be harder to mix and match. In addition, the short sleeves make the blouse ideal for summer heat, and it can be layered with a bolero or cardigan for the autumn or spring, plus with a jacket or coat (plus a scarf and gloves) for winter!

Here are some previous coordinates using this blouse:

It was a really hot summer day, and I did not want to deal with the high-collar design of this blouse, so I unbuttoned the top buttons. As you can see below, the blouse still looks decent even though I didn’t button it all the way to the top! It worked quite well for the heat.

So how about you? What is the most versatile lolita item that you own? And if you are not a lolita, what is the most versatile clothing item that you own?
