SteampunkWEAR: Mourning Veil

DSC_0051.jpg

SteampunkWEAR sponsored this lovely Mourning Veil. I love this piece: it is elegant, dramatic, and versatile. When you look at it, it’s simply a square piece of sheer cloth trimmed with soft lace all around. However, it is a great piece to add to an outfit! You can wear it many ways; above, I have it secured on my head with a headband. You can also secure it with barrettes or bobby pins, or you can put it under or over a hat. You can even position the veil to cover your face if you would prefer!

Here is the package I received from SteampunkWEAR:

The padded mailer arrived safely, and the veil was neatly folded inside, wrapped in paper. The shop owners even included a cute thank you card! Check out the photos in the slideshow below for the first time I laid my eyes on the veil!

This veil is perfect for Gothic Lolita coordinates: the simple design makes it easy to work into different outfits.

I love how easy it is to put the veil on my head and secure it with a headband. No pins or barrettes needed for this look!

I did the same thing for the following outfit:

This veil would work well for gothic looks outside Lolita fashion too! I think it can be coordinated with punk looks, and you can even use this veil as a scarf around your neck if you want. It adds a touch of elegance and can give a sombre air to an outfit. I would love to see this veil used in a Victorian mourning-inspired outfit someday!

Besides fashion looks, this veil would also work well for cosplay! I used this veil to add a dramatic touch to my Hatsune Miku (Black Vow/Alluring Secret) cosplay.

It’s long, sheer, and trimmed with lace: it definitely compliments the black dress and adds to the overall Black Vow aesthetic! Below, you can see how the veil looks from the back. It falls straight down, and the sheer fabric allows the shape of the dress and my styling of my Miku wig to be seen through its single layer.

If I ever cosplay Black Vow Miku again, I definitely want to use this veil again! After wearing this veil a few times, I can tell it’s high-quality. There’s no fraying or snags in the fabric and lace! What do you think of this veil? Have you ever worn a veil before?

[LBC] What Do You Like Best About Your Wardrobe

lbc

This is an easy question to answer! The thing I love best is the variety of substyles I can pull off with my wardrobe.

heart

Coord for my first lolita meetup!

At first, when I discovered lolita fashion, I fell in love with the gothic substyle. However, I had difficulty finding gothic lolita pieces that I could afford. I found cute secondhand sweet lolita at affordable prices (Bodyline, handmade, taobao, and eventually, affordable secondhand brand too)… And unexpectedly, I got into sweet lolita. It was too tempting to pass up the great deals (especially the adorable pieces I snagged from Mbok!). And I have always loved sweets… so sweets-themed things stole my heart. Over time, I was able to acquire some pieces that worked well for gothic lolita, and I did ponder leaving sweet. I thought about it…  If I sold off my sweet lolita pieces, then I would have more money to spend on gothic lolita, right? But… I didn’t want to let go of sweet. I might leave it eventually, but for now, I want to keep sweet lolita as part of my wardrobe. And honestly: is there any reason why I should choose one substyle over another? Nope!

My wardrobe is kind of all over the place, which can be annoying at times (like when I’m looking for a certain barrette or necklace but can’t find it because there’s too many all in the same box…). All in all though, I am happy to have the variety of styles in my wardrobe. I can wear different lolita styles and have fun dressing them up (OTT) or down (casual).

Feel free to check out the slideshow below for examples of my current wardrobe!

LBC: How Will I Change My Wardrobe?

lbc

This week’s prompt for Lolita Blog Carnival is: What Changes Will You Make For Your Wardrobe In The New Year?

Hmmm… Let’s think! In January, I would like to go through my wardrobe and sell pieces that I no longer like or I never wear. There are actually a few pieces I have never worn (or haven’t worn in a very long time), but I still want to hang onto because I know I would still like to wear them. I haven’t been able to wear lolita that much this year since I studied abroad in the spring (and couldn’t bring any lolita with me), and I had a busy summer with an internship, and this semester has been brutal. I should go through my wardrobe in January and seriously think about what I want to keep and what I would be better off selling.

I am still debating whether or not I want to leave sweet lolita… I still really love sweet lolita, but I notice that I feel awkward if I wear it alone. If I am honest with myself, I would say that I only feel comfortable wearing OTT sweet lolita if I’m with other lolitas or if I’m at a convention. I still love sweet lolita though, so I’m not sure if I want to leave it, but I might try to sell some of them. I have the most sweet lolita accessories though… so I’m not sure what to do with those. Maybe I could sell them in lots? Or keep them to wear casually? (Although some of them are difficult to wear casually since they’re so over-the-top!) Now that I’m writing this now, I think I would like to hang onto sweet lolita a bit longer. Maybe I can leave sweet lolita in a year… or a few years? I’m always so indecisive since, to be honest, I love all the substyles of lolita!

As for what to add to my wardrobe… I really want a stiff bonnet of my own! The only bonnet I own at the moment is a floppy small red-and-white gingham half-bonnet. I would really like a nice stiff bonnet with a big brim! I want one in black, so that’s my next goal for a wardrobe addition.

Do you want to make any changes to your wardrobe?
