In and Out of Lolita

Image

What do I wear in and out of Lolita? Well, let’s start with Lolita fashion!

The major Lolita styles I have stuck with have been Sweet Lolita and Classic Lolita. This is ironic though since when I first found an interest in Lolita fashion, my favorite substyle was Gothic Lolita.  I still really love Gothic Lolita, but it has been difficult for me to find pieces and coordinate outfits for it. It’s really interesting how one’s style develops: I used to dislike Sweet Lolita, but now, I adore it! In general though, I probably wear Casual Lolita the most often. I try to keep to the Lolita silhouette when I do so. You can see some of my full-out Lolita coordinates here.

Out of Lolita… Most of the time, I dress casually and comfortably. I wear a lot of jeans, t-shirts, and sweatshirts. I like to tie my hair back into a ponytail, but if my hair is left down, I like to add a headband. Or a hair clip or two. (I adore mini-bow barrettes!) When I want to dress up a bit, I like to wear vintage clothes that my mother handed down to me. (My mom gave me all of her old clothes… For once, I am grateful that I am an only child!)

Image

This is one of my favorite hand-me-downs from my mom! It’s a really cute blouse and shorts set, but the shorts are really billowy and resemble a skirt. There are also adorable detachable suspenders! The material is awesome; it never gets wrinkled!

Image

Featured here is my favorite blouse that my mom has handed down to me. It’s a pretty peach color, and the fabric feels lovely! It’s a great thing to wear in the summertime. I adore the little details on this blouse, and I want to use it in a Lolita coord someday. I am finding peach hard to coordinate though… So maybe I will wear it with a plain white skirt in the future? We’ll see.

Image

I don’t have many good photos of myself wearing clothes that my mom gave me, but above is an outfit that I really like! Sorry about the terrible photo. Everything I am wearing, even the belt, was from my mom. My mom used to wear things like this! I told my mom that she should still wear them, since they still fit her, but she thinks that she is “too old” to wear clothing like this. Sigh.

Image

Above is another favorite hand-me-down from my mom! I love qipaos… My mom gave me a few of them. ❤ This is the one that fits me the best though! I love the sequin detailing, and the matching hairpiece is so pretty! The hairpiece doesn’t like to stay in my hair though. xD;; I have only worn this once, but I would like to wear it again someday. It feels too formal to wear on a random occasion though, so maybe I will wear to a formal event or ball of some sort in the future.

I also enjoy cosplaying, so if I wear a wig outside of Lolita fashion, it is most likely for cosplay. I also use my real hair for some of my cosplays.

Image

Above is one of my cosplays from AnimeBoston this year: a maid variant of Hatsune Miku (Vocaloid). I love Vocaloid music, and I would love to cosplay as more Vocaloids in the future. So far, I have only cosplayed as variants of Hatsune Miku and Mikuo (the genderbent version of Miku).

Image

Here I am cosplaying Enma Ai the Hell Girl (Jigoku Shoujo)! Standing next to me is my awesome Lolita friend. (I adore her coordinate in this photo!) This was the first time I cosplayed Enma Ai again in a long while. Last time I cosplayed her, I used my real hair. But this time, I revamped the cosplay by styling a wig to fit her character. This worked great since I hated dealing with my real hair last time I cosplayed her.

[EDIT] The photos from the Hell Girl photoshoot are finally up! Above is one of my favorite photos from the shoot.

Sorry about the terrible photo. I can’t seem to find a better photo in my photo library of my Terezi Pyrope cosplay. Outside of anime, I also really love cosplaying Homestuck! (I really need to catch up on Homestuck this summer though…) Terezi Pyrope is my patron troll, and I love cosplaying as her. ❤

I also really love cosplaying as Karkat Vantas (another Homestuck troll)! The gray troll makeup is annoying at times, but it was fun figuring out the best methods for applying the makeup and sealing it. Another Homestuck troll I have cosplayed as is Feferi Peixes. I have cosplayed as a few Homestuck kid characters as well. The above photograph was from a fun casual wintertime photoshoot. Photo credit goes to Micaiah Reid.

If you want to see more of my cosplays, you can check them out on my Tumblr through this tag! The tag has a mix of Lolita and Cosplay though… I was too lazy to make two different tags for them. xD;;

Hello Batty, A Sweet Lolita’s Disney Life, Edible Rainbows

Full-out coordinates (So far, from 2013)

Warning: Photo-heavy post ahead!

If you would like to see some of my Casual Lolita coordinates, click here.

I really enjoy planning out Lolita coordinates. Sometimes, I find it difficult, but nevertheless, I always find it fun! I love figuring out which clothing articles to put together, and which accessories to add to the outfit. And then wearing the coordinate is a great feeling too! I used to feel awkward wearing Lolita in public, but now, I have built up more confidence. I can wear casual lolita in public by myself, and I’m fine with wearing over-the-top lolita as long as I have at least one friend with me. Maybe eventually, I’ll build up my confidence even more so I can wear over-the-top lolita on my own in public.

Here are some of my favorite full-out coordinates from this year, so far:

This is the outfit I wore when I twinned with my friend Megan! ❤ I miss her already. Hopefully we will be able to hang out in Lolita again this coming autumn! (And perhaps we can try to twin again…?) Megan and I also love dancing… and we were thinking of maybe doing Kpop dance covers… in Lolita. (Not sure when that will happen… but maybe sometime in the future if we have time to learn dances and such!)

Here’s the Sweet Lolita coordinate I wore to a local mall meet-up, featuring a BTSSB cutsew and an AATP skirt. I love the pastel pink and white in this coord! Unfortunately, not all of the whites match… (I find whites really difficult to coordinate… If anyone has advice, please let me know. Thank you in advance!)

DSCN2322DSCN2321

This was my first attempt at a Country Lolita coordinate. I really love the red and white gingham print, and I’m really happy that everything matched up well. The cutsew is from Dear Celine (a Taobao brand), and the skirt is from Angelic Pretty (I snatched it off the comm sales a while ago). I really love the bonnet look, and I hope I pulled it off! There’s one thing that annoys me though… I have red and white wrist cuffs, but I completely forgot about them. They would have matched this coord so well! Next time, I’ll try to remember to wear the wrist cuffs. I can probably work the wrist cuffs into another coordinate as well…

Above, you can see my friend Megan on the left! We are not twinning in this photo, but we were hanging out in Sweet Lolita coordinates together. I’m wearing a BTSSB babydoll JSK and headbow that I got from the comm sales (I believe the set was originall a lucky pack?). Fun fact: the knee-high socks I am wearing are socks that I’ve had since 5th grade. I’m so glad I’m a pack rat and never gave them away… xD I am not sure how well the blue cardigan matches with my coordinate, but it was chilly outside and I did not want to take off the cardigan. (And the cardigan matched better than my sweatshirts or winter jacket… xD)

The following two coords are quite different, but I used the same wig for both. I really love how this wig looks, and I love how both coords turned out.

My favorite JSK: the Bertille Rose from Innocent World ❤

This coat is really warm and I love the detachable fur collar! Maybe I can use the collar with another coat or jacket? Or maybe even a blouse?

In case anybody is curious, the wig I am wearing is the Empress Collection wig in Chocolate Brown from Gothic Lolita Wigs.

I really love the following coord… and I think it was the first coord I put together that I was proud of. I wore this outfit to my very-first Lolita meet-up! ❤

heart

I still love that bolero too… I found it at a thrift store at such a cheap price! The only annoying thing about it is… how it sheds off feathers. The fluff at the collar and the sleeves are feathers that just love flying everywhere. Those brown platform shoes broke (the soles came off)… but they are fixed now. I’m a bit scared to wear them again though! If I wear them again, I’ll probably only wear them for short periods of time, or bring spare shoes with me just in case something happens to them again.

And here is one of the Customer Coordinate showcases for Gothic Lolita Wigs that I was featured in:

I can’t believe I actually got accepted to the showcase again. >w< The above coordinate was what I wore to the Conbust Lolita Fashion 101 panel. I love the Alice in Wonderland theme of this Bodyline JSK!

I really hope I have made some progress as a Lolita since last year. ❤ I would love to receive feedback and advice from other Lolitas, so please don’t be shy! I appreciate constructive criticism.

Little Post about a Great Meet-up (and my favorite JSK!)

On Sunday, April 14, I attended a meet-up in Boston that was co-hosted by two amazing Lolitas, Scarlet and Ashley. 🙂 It was a fun and casual Newbury Street Stroll, and all the attendees were dressed up in pretty frills! We had a great mix of coordinates. We ate a late lunch at a sushi restaurant, walked along Newbury Street, drank delicious hot chocolate (and ate some yummy chocolate too), did some shopping, and took photos!

I attempted to dress up in Hime-Lolita style. ^-^ This is the coordinate that I wore to the meet-up:

Image

It features an Innocent World dress (the only brand item that I’ve purchased directly from the brand website) – the Bertille Rose JSK in the Bordeaux colorway. I adore this dress and I think it looks very princess-like! I purchased this dress during the Winter Sale. (And Scarlet purchased her IW JSK during the Winter Sale too! I gave her the JSK when I saw her at the beginning of the meet, and she changed into it. It suits her so well!)

I paired this JSK with an offbrand blouse (something I found in a local thrift store), offbrand socks, white tea parties, vintage jewelry, and a hime crown. This JSK is my favorite dress I own at the moment. ❤ I love the feel of the fabric, I love the comfortable back shirring, and I love the rose and ribbon print! The lace is absolutely gorgeous too… And I love the Bordeaux colorway.

Here are some group photos from the meet-up:

And a silly pic:

Another group photo (those machines in the background were epic <3):

As we walked down the street, we saw a sign that said “Lolita” and… we just had to snap another group photograph!

Image

Ashley also snapped a cute candid shot! I had no idea she took this photo until I looked through her Facebook album today and spotted this candid picture:

Image

It was pretty chilly that day too… so most of the time, I had a coat on. I wore my (only) Lolita-styled coat though! 😀

Image

All of the above photographs were taken by Ashley (HarmonyCloud).

Prior to this meet-up, when I finally decided to try on my new IW JSK, I asked one of my friends to snap some photos of me. It was not an official photoshoot, but it was a fun little mini-shoot (and we got some good photos)!

Here is a light-hearted photo of me hugging the grandfather clock in my dorm house living room:

Image

I love grandfather clocks so much. ❤ I actually love clocks in general. Actually, I’m sitting at he table right next to this clock as I am typing these very words. If I’m doing homework in my house or taking a study break in my house, I love sitting in the living room next to this clock.

Here’s a photograph that shows off the Bertille Rose JSK very nicely:Image

Just look at those frills. >w<

That is all for now!

I will try to blog more consistently this summer. Right now I’m in the last stretch of classes (two more weeks of classes, then finals week…), so I am really busy at the moment. But once summer comes, I’ll definitely try my best to be more active in the Lolita Blog Carnival as well as making more posts about Lolita Fashion and my coordinates.

(Also, sorry about this very photo-heavy post!)
