Winter International Lolita Day 2017

Winterย International Lolita Day 2017 took place on Saturday, December 2 this year. I figured I would write a post about this before 2017 ends since it was a fantastic day! It was my first time truly twinning too… I’ve never twinned with a print before!

The night before the meetup, I was last-minute coord-ing (at past midnight). You can see my full planning photos on Tumblr.

Me and Victoria of ParfaitDoll twinned in Powder Rose: same colorway, but different dresses. I love this Angelic Pretty print, and was really happy when I was able to purchase it secondhand from a friend!

There were a bunch of different meetups happening in NYC for International Lolita Day, but I attended the meet that was at Sweet Time Dessert Cafe in West Village. It was such a cute location for International Lolita Day! Powder Rose fit right in at home.

Everyone there adored the rose wall. The desserts all looked so cute too! I had the mousse dessert shaped like a heart (and we called it the “butt” because it also looks like a peach… or a butt). The bubble tea was delicious too! I actually had two bubble teas: a jasmine green tea with peach bubbles one, and a Thai tea one with brown sugar bubbles.

If I had more money, I would have bought more desserts for myself. I wanted to try all the desserts there… Even though I only got one dessert, Victoria and I took bites of each other’s treats too! Her roll dessert was really cute!

It was really cold outside (in my opinion), so I regret not wearing my trusty old L.L. Bean winter jacket like I always wear in the wintertime. The reason I opted out of that jacket is because it’s solid black (and not loliable at all), so I wanted to wear a sweet style coat. The coat I chose to wear was this short coat from Liz Lisa.

It’s really cute, and I love the bows on it! It’s not very warm though… And I was wearing so many layers that day to make up for it. Thermal shirt, thermal tights, regular tights, knee-high fleece socks, a long-sleeved blouse, my huge multi-layer Classical Puppets petticoat… And my wig counts as an additional layer, right?

Luckily, it was nice and cozy inside the dessert cafe. The giant bear by the window at the cafe was the most popular…! Everyone wanted photos with him.

Check out this funny video me and Victoria made!

Even people who came to the cafe outside our meetup wanted photos with the bear and against the rose wall!

Below, you’ll see a cute photo collage Christina made of me and Victoria and our adventures at the meetup. The last panel is my favorite one! Victoria was complaining about terrible customer service at a nail salon she had tried. Her face is perfection.

It was super fun to twin, and I hope I can find someone to twin with again! This meetup was super fun, although it ended in pain and tragedy: both soles of my Bodyline boots came off. First, the right side. And then later on, the left side. It was really difficult to walk, but I was able to make it back home somehow. I’ll probably try to glue the soles back on and then minimize wearing them. (Maybe just wear them for shoots?) I’ve had similar negative experiences with Bodyline shoes so I’m hesitant to buy them again.

In any case, here’s my coord rundown:

โ€ JSK & Canotier: Angelic Pretty’s Powder Rose

โ€ Earrings:ย Orisian

โ€ Blouse: BTSSB

โ€ Rings: Offbrand

[Review] FashionKawaii: Floral Chiffon Dress

Here is my review for the Sweet Floral Chiffon Dressย fromย FashionKawaii! This dress first appeared in my blog postย FashionKawaii: Bunny Princess, where I styled this dress with a cute bunny-eared jacket.ย If youโ€™re interested in purchasing something fromย FashionKawaii, use theย coupon codeย โ€œpearlpeonyโ€ย for 10% off!

When I received theย dressย in the mail, here is how it was packaged:

It came neatly folded in a plastic bag with a Ziploc-style closure. The dress was in perfectย condition!

The dress looks lovely from both the front and the back! I love the all-over floral print and the lace details. The sleeves have a subtle flare, and I love their half-sleeve length. They are slightly shorter than three-quarter sleeves, but they are still very ย flattering. The lace feels soft and not too flimsy.

The dress has no shirring, so make sure you read the size chart and choose the appropriate size before purchasing. There is a zipper on the side of the dress to make wearing the dress an easier process. It was very easy for me to put on the dress, but taking it off was difficult. I had to shimmy out of it awkwardly since the sleeves were a tight fit and I didn’t want to rip the dress… But it worked out! I didn’t get stuck– thank goodness! The sizing of this dress was accurate to the size chart provided on theย FashionKawaiiย website. The sleeves run narrow, so if you have larger arms, this dress may not fit you.

FashionKawaii: Bunny Princess

Have you heard of the shop FashionKawaii? It’s an adorable Storenvy shop with a great selection of fashion items.ย If you’re interested in purchasing something, use theย coupon codeย โ€œpearlpeonyโ€ย for 10% off!

Recently, I styled two items from this shop together in an outfit inspired by the idea of a Bunny Princess! Here are the two items featured in this outfit:ย Sweet Floral Chiffon Dress and Kawaii Rabbit Ears Coat.

I’m working on a review for theย Chiffon Dress, which will be posted soon. In general, I am pleased with both of these items! They’re really cute both separately and together.

The coat is not warm enough for the dreary New England winter, but it would be a great coat for springtime or autumn… (Or for an abnormally warm winter day. xD) The coat is lined, but the lining has a lot of loose threads. I was shivering in this outfit since I’m usually bundled in thick jeans, winter boots, a thick sweater, a cozy scarf, and my trusty old winter jacket in this type of weather.

But… this coat is so much cuter than my plain all-black winter jacket. My favorite part of the coat is the hood with the bunny ears!

For this outfit, I tried something new: normally, I wouldn’t go for this kind ofย look with a floral dress. Theย Sweet Floral Chiffon Dressย would be great for a hime gyaru or roma gyaru coordinate, but I didn’t feel confident in my wardrobe to be able to pull off one of these looks. I tried to think of something cute I could coordinate with this dress, and I wondered if it would work with theย Rabbit Ears Coat. The coat definitely brings out a quirky and cute feel to the dress that the dress wouldn’t originally have! Along with pastel accessories such as the macaron necklace, floral bows, and boots, I think the outfit comes together nicely as something a Bunny Princess would wear on a casual day. I never thought I would throw these two items together in a coord, but I am glad I did! I hope I can have more fun with coordinates in the future. I’m not sure which substyle this look would fit into, but hey, who cares? Playing around with fashion is fun!

What do you think? Do you prefer theย Dressย or theย Coat? I would love to hear your opinions!

I would also like to take a moment to thank Grace from the local Lolita community for taking these photos for me. I appreciate it!
